BAYBAY CITY, LEYTE  – DILG RO8 in coordination with DILG Leyte Provincial Office, conducted an Orientation-Workshop and Provision of Technical Assistance on Financial Assistance to Local Government Units (FALGU) to Disaster-Stricken LGUs on September 14, 2022, at Baybay City Auditorium.

The main purpose of this activity is to orient the qualified LGUs of Baybay City and Abuyog, Leyte the necessary preparation and processes in order to avail the financial assistance through the FALGU program.

The DILG R8 – Project Development and Management Unit (PDMU) Head Engr. Jesus Jeremy D. Bagares provided an orientation on the Local Budget Circular (LBC) No. 142-B. The orientation highlighted the circular’s purpose; eligible projects which are directly related to disaster response, rehabilitation and recovery; and documentary requirements based on LBC 142. A workshop on the formulation of Special Budget Requests (SBRs), and proper filling-out of necessary forms followed the orientation.

In their messages of support and commitment, Vice-Mayor Ernesto M. Butawan of Baybay City, expressed the activeness of the national government in providing assistance, and as an avenue in delivering the community’s problems to the authorities. The local government of Baybay City shall continue to look for methods in order to lessen the casualties brought by disasters, especially with the provision of funds allotted for eligible projects that will provide decent housing for their people. He finally added that the City of Baybay will always support the programs of the national government. In addition, Vice-Mayor Lemuel Gin K. Traya of Abuyog, also shared the same sentiments, and expressed their commitment to support the assistance provided, through the provision of all the necessary documents from the local government.

In attendance were DILG 8 Regional Director Atty. Arnaldo E. Escober, Jr., DILG-Leyte Provincial Director Annabelle V. De Asis, PDMU Head Engr. Jesus Jeremy D. Bagares, Baybay City Vice-Mayor Ernesto M. Butawan, City Administrator Atty. Florante A. Cayunda, Jr., Abuyog Vice-Mayor Lemuel Gin K. Traya, CLGOO Juvy C. Pedrera, and MLGOO Ivan Cornelius V. Co. Nine (9) target barangays of Baybay City were present: Kantagnos, Bunga, Mailhi, Maypatag, Kan-ipa, Villa Mag-aso, Kagumay, Villa Solidaridad, and Bubon. Also present were the three (3) targeted barangays from Abuyog: Pilar, Bahay, and Malaguicay. BLGUs were represented by their Punong Barangays, Barangay Secretaries, and SB Members for Public Works and Infrastructure. Their respective city and municipal engineers were present along with the CPDC, MPDC, CDRRMO, and MDRRMO. This activity was hosted by the City Government of Baybay.
