In an astounding feat of local governance, 33 Eastern Visayas Local Government Units (LGUs) from different provinces, municipalities, and cities were conferred with the Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) held at the Manila Hotel on December 14, 2023.

After rigorous regional and national validation was conducted, the following 33 LGUs emerged and were awarded an SGLG marker and the SGLG incentive fund to finance their local development initiatives:

• Cabucgayan, Biliran
• Kawayan, Biliran
• Albuera, Leyte
• Barugo, Leyte
• Kananga, Leyte
• San Miguel, Leyte
• Tabon-tabon, Leyte
• Arteche, Eastern Samar
• Quinapondan, Eastern Samar
• Sulat, Eastern Samar
• Catarman, Northern Samar
• Laoang, Northern Samar
• San Antonio, Northern Samar
• San Roque, Northern Samar

In addition, Barugo, Leyte, is one of the 22 LGUs that have been consistent SGLG passers ever since 2015.

Secretary of the Interior and Local Government, Atty. Benjamin Abalos, Jr., congratulated all the SGLG winners. He emphasized the importance of sharing a culture of excellence among LGUs and ensuring that no community will be left behind in the country’s thrust towards prosperity.

“Kapag may mga pagtitipon at pagsasanay, nawa’y pag-usapan natin ang iba’t ibang paraan kung paanong mas magiging mahusay pa ang ating pamamahala,” he said.
Joining the DILG EV team are DILG Regional Director Arnel M. Agabe and Assistant Regional Director Atty. Darwin N. Bibar, Provincial Directors, SGLG Focal Persons, Local Chief Executives and their representatives, and City/Municipal Local Government Operations Officers.

Enacted through Republic Act No. 11292, the Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG or Seal) as an institutionalized award, incentive, honor, and recognition-based program continues to uphold its commitment to bringing about people-oriented reforms that will enable the local government units to foster a culture of good governance amid the challenges in the local government landscape.
