TACLOBAN CITY – The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Eastern Visayas recently conducted the Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) Regional Calibration at the DILG Regional Office 8 in Tacloban City. During the event, the DILG Provincial, City, and Regional Offices presented the results of the 2023 SGLG Regional Assessment Team (RAT) Validation. The objective of the activity was to identify Local Government Units (LGUs) that are certain and have the potential to pass the national assessment. To help them and improve their chances of passing, difficulties and strategies on how to resolve them were also identified for potential passers.

Particularly, LGUs were assessed based on their capacity to demonstrate proficiency in all ten governance areas, namely: Financial Administration and Sustainability; Disaster Preparedness; Social Protection and Sensitivity; Health Compliance and Responsiveness; Sustainable Education; Business-Friendliness and Competitiveness; Safety, Peace and Order; Environmental Management; Tourism, Heritage Development, Culture and Arts; and Youth Development.

The assessment yielded promising results, fueling a renewed sense of optimism and providing a positive outlook for the future. The outcomes of the evaluation demonstrate a remarkable improvement in the performance of LGUs in delivering public services and upholding the principles of good local governance.

In his opening message, DILG 8 Assistant Regional Director, Atty. Darwin N. Bibar, on behalf of DILG 8 Regional Director Arnel M. Agabe, underscored the vital importance of continually enhancing and upholding the best practices of LGUs.

“We are only starting; there is still more work to be done. I firmly believe that the true strength of a nation lies in the hands of its local governments,” ARD Bibar said.

Recognizing the achievements and progress made thus far, Atty. Bibar called upon all LGUs to embrace a mindset of constant improvement and an unwavering commitment to maintaining the highest standards of governance.

The SGLG is an annual program that promotes and recognizes good governance. It serves as an ongoing challenge for provincial, city, and municipal governments to continually improve their performance today and in the future.
