Committed to instilling disaster awareness among its personnel, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Region 8 joined the conduct of the 2nd Quarter National Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED), June 19, 2025, Tacloban City.
Following โDuck, Cover, and Holdโ emergency protocol, DILG 8 personnel took cover under their cubicles and immediately proceeded to the designated evacation area where team leaders conducted headcount to ensure that all personnel are safe and accounted for.
In his guidance, DILG 8 Regional Director Arnel M. Agabe noted the critical role of conducting quarterly earthquake drills to adequately prepare personnel for said disaster.
โThe reason we conduct the NSED is for earthquake safety protocols to become muscle memoryโautomatic, precise, and second nature. We want to ingrain these protocols into the minds of our personnel, so that when earthquakes do strike, safety comes instinctively,โ said Director Agabe.
After the simulation, the DILG conducted a debriefing and feedbacking activity which serves as a platform to discuss notable observations during the conduct of the activity. Director Agabe also highlighted the importance of first aid kits, go bags, and safety equipments in accessible areas in the office.
He added that this activity allows personnel to be reoriented on responding both during and after earthquakes.
The successful conduct of the drill demonstrated the departmentโs proactive stance in promoting a culture of readiness and ensuring that all personnel are both mentally and physically prepared for real-life emergencies.
