With a shared goal of advancing nutrition governance in the region, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Region 8 actively participated in the 1st Regional Nutrition Committee (RNC) Meeting for 2025 on June 13, 2025 at Hotel Alejandro, Tacloban City. The activity brought together stakeholders to align on upcoming initiatives and solidify their commitment to the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) 2023โ2028.
Led by Department of Health (DOH) 8 Regional Director Dr. Exuperia Sabalberino and National Nutrition Council (NNC) 8 Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator Dr. Catalino Dotollo Jr., the meeting focused on key agenda items, including the finalization of the 2025 Nutrition Month Plan of Activities and the review and approval of proposed RNC resolutions.
Participating agencies include the DOH, Department of Education (DepEd), Department of Science and Technology (DOST), Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Philippine Information Agency (PIA), Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU), Department of Economy, Planning, and Development (DEPDev), and the Eastern Visayas Association of Barangay Nutrition Scholars (EVA-BNS).
The DILG, through Memorandum Circular 2024-071, was recognized for its key mandate in monitoring local government unit compliance with the PPAN. The directive underscores the Departmentโs role in ensuring that nutrition indicators are integrated in local governance performance tools and supported through effective planning and program implementation.
The meeting concluded with the Committee affirming the importance of inter-agency collaboration in achieving nutrition outcomes in Eastern Visayas, particularly in anticipation of Nutrition Month this July. The approved resolutions are expected to guide the Committeeโs direction for the rest of the year.
