To strengthen inter-agency efforts towards accelerating development in Eastern Visayas, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Region 8 joined the 2nd Quarter Full Council Meeting of the Eastern Visayas Regional Development Council (RDC) on June 10, 2025 conducted at the Ormoc City Hall and via Zoom.
The Council, chaired by Ormoc City Mayor Lucy Torres-Gomez with PSR Leo Christian V. Lauzon as co-chair, discussed matters concerning the economic outlook for Eastern Visayas and updates on the situation regarding the load limitations on the San Juanico Bridge. The Council also discussed the strengthening of the RDCs under Executive Order No. 82, s. 2025 as well as sectoral and affiliate committee concerns.
In addition, Chairperson Torres-Gomez delivered her end-of-term report for 2022–2025. This was followed by the awarding of plaques to outgoing RDC VIII Full Council and Committee Officials for the 2022-2025 Term of Office.
Assistant Regional Director Darwin N. Bibar represented DILG Region 8 Regional Director Arnel M. Agabe during the meeting. Also in attendance were representatives from member agencies of RDC VIII, including the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Department of Economy, Planning, and Development (DEPDev), Department of Budget and Management (DBM), Department of Tourism, and other key stakeholders.
Through its active engagement in the RDC VIII, the DILG reaffirms its support for coordinated governance and inclusive development initiatives. The department shall continue working collectively with stakeholders to translate regional plans into tangible outcomes for the people of Eastern Visayas.
