In line with efforts to reinforce good governance monitoring while the implementation of the Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) is temporarily deferred, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Region 8 conducted a Comprehensive Review of Local Government Unit (LGU) Performance Indicators on June 18, 2025, at the DILG Regional Office 8, Tacloban City.
The review, conducted by the DILG 8’s Performance Management Incentives and Awards Section (PMIAS) under the Local Government Monitoring and Evaluation Division (LGMED), focused on streamlining performance assessment tools that would guide LGUs in improving their performance in light of the SGLG’s deferment.
LGMED Chief Jhonel M. Aรฑavesa underscored the importance of a thorough review of the indicators and their corresponding requirements. He added that the reviewed performance indicators will serve as the basis for intensified monitoring efforts while the SGLG is on hold. Despite this temporary pause, the initiative continues to champion transparency, accountability, and the pursuit to improved service delivery among LGUs in Eastern Visayas.
In 2024, a total of 53 LGUs in Region 8 earned the SGLG distinctionโ€”marking a 60.60% increase from the previous year. Building on this momentum, the department seeks to further elevate local governance standards by continuously enhancing performance monitoring and support mechanisms for LGUs.
DILG Region 8 remains committed to providing support and resources for all LGUs in their pursuit of local governance excellence. The department spares no effort in ensuring that the principles of good local governance are sustained throughout the region.
