ORMOC CITY – The DILG R8 participates in the second day of the Kukabildo: Alignment of The Ormoc City Barangay Merger to SDG 11-Inclusive, Safe, Resilient and Sustainable Cities And Communities on September 5, 2022 at the Ormoc City Hall Multi-Purpose Hall.

The Kukabildo on Barangay Merger intends to provide the participants with awareness on the salient provisions of the Local Government Code in improving governance in whichever structure it may be deemed progressive.

Specifically, the activity aimed to discuss the salient provisions of the Local Government Code in merging LGUs, present the demands of the time for development and sustainability of LGUs under the UN-SGD 11, promote informed decision among the various stakeholders of the barangay merger, present sustainable communities as case studies in support to LGU reorganization and political subdivisions restructuring, and develop local consciousness on peace and development through aligned vision of the barangays, the City Government and the national thrusts.

The activity was participated by Dennis C. Villaseñor, Director of the National Barangay Operations Office, John Aries S. Macaspac, Director of the Local Government Regional Coordination Bureau, Atty. Arnaldo E. Escober Jr., DILG R8 Regional Director, Imelda C. Laceras, Regional Director of the Department of Budget and Management, Prof. Alex B. Brillantes, Jr., Professor of UP-NCPAG, and Jean Redi T. Briones, CLGOO of Ormoc City.

The highlights of the activity included the topics on the Barangay Merger as the future of local governance, implications of Barangay Merger into local revenue and barangay budget, the Barangay Merger as platform for Barangay Development, and the unveiling of the Ormoc Merger and SuperBarangay Vision Board.
